slackware
package manager
What?
The hell's wrong with you? Build things from source, the way nature intended. Package Manager. What a fucking liberty! When did people become so fucking workshy? You want to sit there, growing fat off the processed fat in that packaged food product you're (mis)managing down your gullet, while all the work is done for you?
Don't want to write the software.
Don't want to build the software.
Don't want to install the software.
At this point you're no longer using the computer. The computer is using you - its very own dedicated meat-based co-processor, running at the clock-speed of butter. I'd complain more, but everyone probably gets the point by now.
I'd offer some advice, but your ticket here is as clear as coal. What package manager? Is there anything in the logs? Is the program itself dying or is it choking waiting for access to something? Anything particular in the VM configuration that might make anything behave in a nonstandard fashion?
Can't do shit without knowing shit.
Totally this! Slackware is the Meccano of Linux.
It gives you the tools. It's up to you to use them.
./configure; make clean; make; make install
How hard is that?
Set those kernel options! Build your system how you want it built!
Package managers are for the weak and weary ;-)
