Why bother? No shortage of easy options available

Is it just one application you want to run or something? Oh snap, is this about the gaming thing? (excitement intensifies)

Okay now do it when you can't forward any ports but existing ones.

Why is that the case?

Well see here is the thing, I'm at the second poal meetup for a week, remote from my network and my primary remote access method is just fucking killed. So I need an alternate I have managed to get remote access via ssh to a few boxes but in order to change router settings/run the podcast on sunday I need VNC/RDP or something to a box on the local. So thats where I'm at. X11 forwarding got me into the router kind of.

Edit: if you jump on mumble maybe we can brain storm. Let me know I'll go get the headset out of the bag.

Hold my beer I got this.

5 minutes tops. People have been forwarding X applications since the mid eighties.

Except when they require a bunch of libraries that are not installed on the VM and the VM is acting like a piece of shit.

Oh yeah, for the X application side it can be tricky. Use Xeyes or Xclock for testing, they are stock on most systems and will work on anything back to the early 90s.
