Here's how we know it has nothing to do with socialism
Socialism is all about the forced redistribution of wealth by the government so that "everyone has the same shit" (emphasis on the shit part)
Open source is volentary by nature. There's no requirements for anything.
Due to almost every public figure resorting to some form of reductionism or the other, people so naturally conflate terms. They believe socialism has to do with "free shit," so they see open source code as the exact same thing because it's free.
By that same logic, anything that's free is socialism.
