Having used WSL for some work stuff a while back I would still rather just spin up a virtualbox VM and use that.. Unless that is not a option.

From the post:

>But being an official distro "makes it easier for Windows Subsystem for Linux users to install and discover it with actions like wsl --list --online and wsl --install," Microsoft pointed out this week. And "We're excited to announce that Red Hat will soon be delivering a Red Hat Enterprise Linux WSL distro image in the coming months..."

Yeah, sometimes you are limited by company policy but if they let you use WSL but not VirtualBox... its better than nothing.

Though, The security team(s) I have worked with HATE WSL since they say they have very little visibility into it because of how it runs (currently at least).

That is a good point about WSL. Also, Oracle has being shaking down businesses over VirtualBox and Java. Last year we had to pull nearly every version of Vbox out of the network. Fortunately, only one person was using it for business and we were able to move that to a RHEL VM that was already on support. Not only is the extension pack expensive, the minimum order is 100. Fuck that.

EDIT:

If you are facing Oracle showing up and shaking you down over Java, move to adoptium. It's free and we've got multiple apps running on it with no issues.

Oh, that is interesting. I am going to have to bring that up after the holidays. Thank's for the suggestion!
