Maybe. A Crowdstrike update made some Debian servers crash and fail to boot back in April. Rocky Linux had similar Crodwstrike issues when upgrading to Rocky Linux 9.4.

What is interesting is that because there are many different Linux distros Crowdstrike’s poor quality assurance did not knock them all out at once.

This recent bugged update for Crowdstrike on Windows seemed more fundamental. It caused a hard crash and took the OS down with it because it runs at the kernel level. A horribly botched update like that would probably knock out all Linux distros too.

What might save Linux machines is that we tend to demand more visibility and control over software. Some group might make open source software that does what Crowdstrike does. We would have more visibility into their QA process and likely more control over how updates are rolled out to our machines.
