I've been trying to download 21.2 cinnamon 64-bit ISO or excuse me I mean verify the ISO. So I have the sha-sum that I can verify with the ISO but then when it comes to importing the Linux mint signing key, it doesn't jive up. It only gives me the last maybe 10 numbers of the key. And then when I go to verify the authenticity it says that I have a bad signature. I've tried like six of these stupid iso from the US. Should I just go to a different country and try my luck there? It doesn't help that I have no idea really what I'm doing other than I'm following really horrible instructions off of the Mint website. They must be written by the guy who writes instructions for Ikea.

No I'm waiting for a different hard drive. I don't want to do a dual boot because I had it break on me a couple years ago and it was a huge pain in the butt to try and figure that out. So now I'll just keep my windows SSD and a static bag hidden away until I need it. The other drive should show up tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens. So do you think that having ram that's a little higher in mhz isn't something to really worry about? I read people on other forms asking about that if I start to get too much heat coming out of the computer it can muck things up a little bit. Although I don't know if that's what will happen in this case, but I read that it could.

There's so many different variations of computer configurations which is a beautiful thing if you know what they do, LOL. I never thought about it much because I always got free computers. This is honestly the first one I bought since 2002.

Don't worry about the RAM being "too slow", etc. Linux OS adjusts operations to meet the speed of the RAM buss. Unless you are playing a video game with demands for speed, you won't notice any difference. Good idea on using the SSD for mint; it will be fast and reliable. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Got it up and running. Mint 20.1 24gb of ram 1.5 TB of disk space. I have a Lenovo t490 if I didn't state that already. Now I have the arduous task of bringing things back( programs and such) to this laptop. This will take me a couple of days.

Great! With your RAM and SSD Mint will fly.
