In the case you were doing some kind of work on the live cd, it can not be saved, unless a storage device like a hard drive or USB key is mounted.

Im talking about installing linux, it wouldnt install off my thumbdrive but when I copied it to dvd it did. It gave me the options I think to save files but didnt care at the time due to comp it was on.

Sounds like the install image was not done right on USB, but you have it right on the DVD so you are good.

"Live" Linux systems booted from USB or CD can create a file on your windows disk and use that to save files from your Linux session onto the computer, it just makes one file or folder there and places any new files or changes to existing Linux files onto the windows disk. Then when you boot Linux again you have saved changes from your last session.

It is easier and cheaper to do this than dual boot, but not as reliable.

Well I copied the usb to dvd and it worked? So your saying it doesnt save windows files? And Im not talking about just booting from dvd. Im installing and wiping windows.
