Yeah, that is one thing that takes getting used to. On Linux you operate as a basic "user" the majority of the time which is far safer. On windows you are more or less a "Admin" all of the time which is part of why its so easy to f-up or get a virus or something since no one ever pays attention to the UAC (user access control) pop-up's and just click "ok".

I havent run an antivirus for years on windows with no problem at all. When I was into comps way back on xp and before I loved getting the red screen to fix it. I have always had multiple comps so it was no problem to fix it. But admitting I have been left behind now. When I could no longer control everything I just gave up.

Yeah, I don't run any "extra" anti-virus on the Windows dual boot system I have (its for gaming, windows is a game console). I do have network level scanning and stuff like that running though.

Im still running 7 now and will go no further thus the linux. I hope to put it on this comp. I bought two copies of xp pro the first day it came out. My son is in IT now because we had 3 comps and always played games and of course I was into deleting useless files in xp so had to reinstall often. We use to watch windows ME defragging like it was a game or something. He was like 6 maybe at the time.
