The first time I installed Red Hat on a system was in the late 90's on a old 233mhz PC. I was installing from 3.5" floppy disk.
It took weeks to get sound to work properly and the pitiful "voodoo" graphics card never really "worked" for more than just the most basic of window managers.
Now, Redhat/Fedora/Ubuntu/Debian/etc all can be installed on about damn near anything with minor effort and I barely have to think to get graphics drivers working. Things have come a long way.
