My fren installed Linux Mint on my cheap LP laptop six months ago, it works fine. But since a few days ago, it's shutting down without warning at 70% battery level. Computer is one year old, I only use it casually. How do I run a battery test? I don't have HP Support Assistant downloaded. I have read that other people had same problem, even with replacement battery..

No worries.

I can't find anything specific to your laptop or setup, so it looks like the simplest answer is that your battery is failing.

I've had similar issues with an Asus gaming laptop that just hit 5 years old. One day the battery just decided to quit.

There are some extremely nerdy command line tasks I could suggest, but if you're not overly techie they will just be a whole new dimension of frustration for you, and will likely arrive at the same solution: The quickest and simplest way to almost certainly* fix your issue would be to drop $20 on a new battery.

* Not a guarantee, but if it was my laptop...

I just asked Herr Bezos to send me a new one, he said he will deliver it in 2 days. Why people hate Amazon is a mystery to me.
