I have been using Openshot, and it really is quite capable, but a lot of time I simply want to cut out a clip from something and going through the export sequence I seem to end up with huge files that are way bigger than the source was. If I am simply missing something in the Openshot settings and I can export in the same format as the source, please fill me in. Thanks in advance.

Ya, handbrake can take clips by selecting the desired time in the "ranges" tab, but it is clunky-no preview etc. And it doe snot want to automatically export in the source format. Avidemux suggested by turned out to be the easy solution. After I figured out the "appimage" files don't require going through any actual install process, of course. Thanks for your suggestions, I really do appreciate the help. In case it was not obvious - I am not a tech guy, lol.
