Ahh, Handbrake I am familiar with, although I did not know it was Linux compatible. I will try this. Would still like to find something that is more along the lines of an actual editor that will allow exporting in the source format though.
Update: I tried Handbrake for grabbing a clip from a video, and it has the same issue of not exporting in the source format. You can manually select something close, but it is still not simply taking a piece out of a video, and of course is way more clunky than an actual video editor- no timeline, etc. Not an improvement over Openshot for anyone who may be interested in what I am asking about.
damn, i just checked (i rarely use handbrake) and you can't copy the video portion. If i notice anything i'll track this down and reply again. You could always learn to use the command line...
you might be able to find a gui for ffmpeg as well.
Ya, handbrake can take clips by selecting the desired time in the "ranges" tab, but it is clunky-no preview etc. And it doe snot want to automatically export in the source format. Avidemux suggested by turned out to be the easy solution. After I figured out the "appimage" files don't require going through any actual install process, of course. Thanks for your suggestions, I really do appreciate the help. In case it was not obvious - I am not a tech guy, lol.
