I only got into Linux back in 2016, so I avoided the worst of the dark years. Even so, before DXVK and D9VK became a thing, I recall all the tweaks I had to do just to get a 5 or 10 year old game running.
I've recently been on an Assassin's Creed binge, after originally dropping the series after Black Flag, and it's been such a sea change going from that in 2016, to being able to play Rouge, Unity, Syndicate, Origins and Odyssey with just a click of a button.
