Pretty sure the author doesn't understand what happened to the "open-source ecosystem" in the last decade... Linus Torvalds himself has been subverted by his own daughter (guess what kind of people educated her?).
To pretend an operating system is "more secure" than any other is absurd. If you really care about privacy, the only thing you can do is cut all power. (or find some ancient and obscure hardware to run ancient software on, making yourself incompatible with almost all possible exploits ...and almost everything else)
