I'm new here. Should I create a /s/Unix or /s/BSD for these kinds of posts?
"Unix became Linux" because Linux went viral by 1994, which is when the BSD lawsuit FUD was finally cleared. If BSD was freed just a few years sooner, Linux wouldn't have had a chance, and a much better ecosystem would have evolved around the BSDs.
