Anyways, the most important thing to understand about WW2 is that the Soviet Union was building the biggest war machine in history, and was about to resume its expansion to take over the world (Communist World Revolution). Hitler was an anti-communist, first and foremost. Despite his complicated diplomacy with Stalin (who he thought was at least better than the likes of Trotsky), everyone knew that war was inevitable. USSR was days away from (re-re-)invading Poland first, and that would put Soviet tanks and planes a stone's throw from Berlin! (Read Victor Suvorov.) Hitler made a desperate preemptive strike, but it wasn't enough, because the Western Empires had betrayed Civilization by siding with the Soviets. The rest of WW2 was a slow-playing tragedy... Keeping millions of prisoners alive in a relatively small blockaded nation being invaded on all sides was next to impossible. The huge problem Germany was having, in addition to food and fuel shortages, was disease. Officially instituting cannibalism would have made it a lot worse...
