Great move! Mostly just search for what you're trying to figure out. One site that comes up often is itsfoss.com and you can check out https://alternativeto.net/ that will help you find Linux alternatives to Windows or Mac software.

Thanks mate. Yes after watching the world go by, Linux was the best option.

Just to confuse myself abit more Ive decided to play computer games and joined Steam.

Last time I played computer games and enjoyed them was at a milkbar and playing PacMan and Space Invaders.

Anyway, I have downloaded Alian Swarm and today I bought a bluetooth controller.

Bluetooth controller will help me get into the game but I can't move my player.

Any idea? Thanks.

You're welcome. No idea about your game problem, but take a look at Retropie. You can run it on any linux machine. Can play 1000s of games that you can get legally for free from wayback machine / archive.org etc.

Also take a look at Wine or better PlayonLinux. Let's you run windows apps. For example Starcraft runs flawlessly.

Cheers

Ok so first of all: Which linux distro are you running on? Mint? Ubuntu? Arch?

Second, keep in mind what terry A davis once said; "Windows is a car, linux is a six wheeler". And he was damn spot on with this analogy. Nobody ever said a 6 wheeler is shit, but there are some stuffs that are harder to do with it, and other much harder... And it can perform stuffs the car simply isn't designed for...

Third: From now on, before buying any additional peripheral or component (printer, scanner, gamepad) make sure it's compatible with linux first before buying it, especially for gamepads

For that you typically do a "what are good gamepads for linux" https://duckduckgo.com/?q=what+are+good+gamepads+for+linux&ia=web

And you get this https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/2t2i7h/what_is_the_best_gamepad_solution_for_linux/ which forwards there https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1hyzbz/gamepads_on_linux/

>"Can anyone recommend a good gamepad that works with Linux (Debian, in particular)?"

>Hmm. I've got a Logitech Gamepad F310, and all it does is force my mouse into a corner until I unplug it.

Hmkay?

>I use the controller of Xbox 360 wireless and it works fine without extra driver under Ubuntu 13.04

>Same. It's brilliant how perfectly that works. The only downside is that the damn light on the controller blinks indefinitely (unless that's just me).

Boom you buy that next time no hassle... Except for the light so you'll need to put adhesive tape on it lol

Also, you also have this in duckduckgo's result... https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gamepad it's for the arch linux distro but it's pretty much valid for any linux regarding the overall technical aspect of things... That is if you want to get technical of course... lol

...

Now you also get this as first result https://linuxhint.com/gamepad_mapping_apps_linux/

"Gamepad mapping", that's typically what you are looking for ultimately, it allows you to assign your gamepad inputs to keyboard keys

That's how I tend to solve the emulators and game configs problems in general, the easy way; I don't config them, I bind the controller to keyboard keys and that's it, then I define keyboard keys in emulators/games if need be, it's more reliable since those games/game platforms, tend to all have their own (often retarded) ways to handle gamepads/joysticks...

Hey! Thanks alot. I have Ubuntu. Managed to get a logistics keyboard/mouse and gamepad to work. Will go through your recommendations and if needed I will msg you with any questions?
