I find tiled desktops work for me. I do like the whole machine being available for doing what I want rather than wasting resources on a "pretty" desktop.
I cut my teeth on real ttys though, so I accept I'm probably stuck firmly in the past.

The more time goes by the more past makes sense and the more the future looks degenerate as far as I'm concerned
How is that thing called on debian/ubuntu, that screen with all the apps you get by clicking on that tiled grey icon
