Good read, thanks for sharing.

There was a time everything was about technical excellency, then gradually toxic people entered the OS camp and now they have claimed this space using labels like CoC and "safe space" and so on.

The fascists of the future will be called the anti-fascists.

No real loss. GNU is already communist. Maybe just not PC communist, but go look up Stallman.

Maybe fits your definition of communism. And, Stallman is always Stallman.

But communism is based on the industrialization and class the sepertation it caused. Code is no physical good, it can be replicated for free and so other ruled have to be applied. GNU uses one ruleset, and IMO it should keep it, something better may always come up, but little is used as long as GNU software.

I much prefer BSD. GPL is like communism for code.

Here's a pretty lengthy article on it: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/bsdl-gpl/

There's some others I've forgotten about. Took me a while to swallow the pill.

I understand both viewpoints. When I get to choose, I choose the one more appropriate for the project.

You're right about Stallman, however note that the reason Linux itself became something great was because Linus Torvalds was not the same. He was more merit based and would even tell the best of them to get fucked if they messed up the userspace. It was almost with an iron fist until the last couple of years. I'm guessing he was overrun by snowflakes.

Agreed, Linus is definitely merit based. But yeah, I think pretty overrun. Although I think he's still done a good job with Linux all around.

Yeah, he had some great rants in his day but has clearly been overrun by zombies.

Yeah, this is really upsetting. Something only great leaders figure out in time is that for something to be awesome, it requires a stringent vetting process that includes snowflake melting. The fact that people welcome these ideas with open arms to "share and get along" seems to become their downfall every time as this author points out.
