I've been having freezeups lately and it's when I have to many things running. I then did some searching and found about the ck patched kernel. Instead of explaining it I'll just leave this link for you guys https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Linux-ck

It's been building for like 45 minutes now and it's only up to drivers/gpu now.

Ended up having the system freeze near the end of compiling. I then realized it was a program and then found searching that JAVA will fuck you over and my downloader had java so I removed it and go a different one. Such a simple answer to system freezes and when I was reading it seems many people are having JAVA freezeups in Linux.

Ha, the mid-90s are calling. Two days or so on a pentium 75 and the kernel was a fraction of what it is now. G-darn kids get off muh lawn reeEEEEE.

Doesn;t Gentoo do this by default?

I believe so and also maybe linux from scratch also.

One of these days, I really need to try and do an Arch install. Mint is fine, but I hate the Snap direction Ubuntu is going, and Debian is a pain in the ass trying to get anything modern running

I would but I don't have a smart phone or another computer to use to follow the directions or to write the specs for directions I will need and not be able to look up during an install. I'm using Namib now and it's like an Antergos clone except the install works every time so I have a stable OS unlike when I installed Manjaro recently. The installation ISO I used was so old that the PGP keys for pacman did not work and I had to go online, find the command to update them using the terminal and then the installer worked properly after that. I'd use virtual machine but it sucks with usb3 so my storage is not accessible when linux is installed on it.
