OK you go to a site and notice later your homepage in windows is now a site you never heard of. Now you go and uninstall your network settings, you reset you wireless settings, you use ipconfig /flushdns. It was all useless. Now I had this problem a few years ago. I search for commands for almost a month, I ran sfc /scannow which scans all your system files. Finally I found on one board a command that fixed everything in a minute flat. Now save this command in a text file if you haven't got a good memory and put it on a backup drive or somewhere, you can also be a lifesaver to a friend or parent with this jewel. Just type netsh winsock reset

and I rebooted and my entire internet worked and everything including my homepage was back to normal and my internet speed and sites that I couldn't get to quickly were all faster.

I run the sub linux for newbs so I have run that antergos, mint, debian, and a dozen more. I was doing this for the windows users that are not ready to leave yet or have a non compatible computer for linux. Just let them hang onto their baby blanket OS for a little while more. Linux will soon enough rule.

That's because windows has made users so brainwashed and scared of trying something new that getting new users to even try is the problem. Now getting some stands setup in areas where people are in towns and stuff on warm dry days and let people try out linux mint cinnamon or something like it that looks and feels like XP would allow them to see how easy it is to run an OS that doesn't get viruses every other week. Also let them install something off of synaptic or that mint installer and show them the image of the thing with the description. Then they see it's easier than window, type password, click apply, and not clicking next 5 times and having to watch out your not changing your homepage or installing something they don't want. I think letting them hands on is the real way to get them to change and then show their friends what they have now. fast , safer, and easier in some cases. Hell if ubuntu would get an RV type vehicle and have like 8 computers on it and just let people mess around and then if anything screws up just reboot and have it like a live image and it's all back to the original setup when it's done.
