Are you talking about civil asset forfeiture of cash in automobiles, or something else? They can't just loot your house or bank account in the US without a court order. There are at least a few checks in place.

Pretty sure they can seize any property they can construe as being used in or profit from a criminal act. Civil asset forfeiture isn't limited to cars.
