Their main goal Wednesday was to get the man in compliance with the local homeowners association.

Wait a fucking minute. This was the cops enforcing HOA rules? How is this a thing?

[–] 4 pts

Never heard of this. HOA should be fining him, if he doesn't pay the fines eventually they can get a foreclosure or garnishment.

[–] [deleted] 4 pts

Exactly, it's a civil matter, not one for the cops.

Makes me think the guy is a known troublemaker or something. Maybe he made threats to the HOA. Not saying it's right to kill him or anything, but this might explain why the police were involved. If the HOA calls a guy and says "You need to mow your lawn, or we'll fine you" and he says "Fuck off, I'll shoot any one of you that comes near my property", that might be a problem?

I'm just speculating, idk the guy, but he doesn't sound very reasonable...

They were enforcing a city ordinance, not HOA. The city started cutting his lawn and he started shooting. @fridayjones posted the story.

Cops won't enforce and uphold the laws of the United states but they will enforce a fucking homeowner association's arbitrary rule?

Fundamental transformation of America.

[–] 0 pt

Yes; That is what the article says. It was an HOA thing. Not a city ordinance.

Real world is that HOAs are mini-governments.

But let's suppose it was a city ordinance; does that warrant killing someone for not cutting their grass? I know the article states he started shooting because people were trespassing on his property because a city or HOA ordinance required the grass be cut. In his view were there trespassers on his property? Most likely.

Talk about the big machine not being able to de-escalate.

City's attempt to cut Texas man's grass leads to a standoff, a fire and his death, police say

by Some jew

Oct. 28, 2021, 6:47 AM PDT

An attempt by Austin, Texas, officials to serve a search warrant and provide lawn care resulted in shots fired, an hourslong standoff, a house fire and a death, police said Wednesday.

Police officers and code enforcement officers arrived at a home at 9:16 a.m. to serve a nuisance search warrant, but could not make contact with the resident, Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon said at an evening news conference.

The warrant was left at the door and contractors for the city's code enforcement began working on the lawn. About an hour later, the resident started shooting from inside the house, Chacon said.

"And they immediately backed off. They got all of the staff that was working on the house to safety and and a SWAT call was initiated for a barricaded subject," he said.

SWAT, mental health officers and a crisis negotiator arrived on scene, but could not get the man out of the home, leading to the lockdown of a nearby elementary school and the closure of several streets.

"SWAT spent the next several hours trying to negotiate with the individual to just simply come out of the house," Chacon said.

At about 3 p.m., the resident started shooting at officers again. "And because of that immediate threat ... they made entry using a robot," Chacon said.

The robot helped officers determine that a fire had been started in the home, and was quickly spreading, he said. Officers still couldn't get the man to come out of the house as it became fully engulfed in flames.

But then the man exited through the garage with weapons in his hand. "At that time, a SWAT officer shot and struck the resident who went down with a gunshot wound," Chacon said.

Officers got the man away from the house and treated him before he was taken to a hospital, where he died. It's unclear what caused his death.

The fire was eventually put out, and the school lockdown was lifted.

The SWAT officer who shot the man will be put on administrative duty during investigations into the incident, Chacon said. The officer has been with the department for eight years, according to the chief.

The resident of the home has not been identified. Austin Police spokesperson Jose Mendez said he was a white man in his 50s.

Mendez said the department had made previous welfare visits to the home, but were never able to communicate with him. Officers were in touch with his family during Wednesday's standoff.

Their main goal Wednesday was to get the man in compliance with the local homeowners association.

“They attempted to cut the lawn for him, and this is the reaction they got,” Mendez said.

"barricaded subject" => wouldn't open or unlock the door for bullshit and armed regime enforcers.

'officer shot him'

'it's unclear what caused his death'

“The robot helped officers determine that a fire had been started in the home”

Oh riiiiight. Kinda like in Waco how the fire magically started and the cops totally had nothing to do with it.

Holy shit. Fuck all government

This sounds really fucked up, it is... but I wonder why the police were there to enforce Homeowner's Association shit? Normally they'd fine him and then seize the property if he didn't pay/mow his yard, police would never be involved in this until eviction.

Unless, and this might be unpopular with Poal readers... This guy was probably a gigantic, raging asshole. He probably had a rap sheet, he probably made some threats and spazzed out. Why do I think this? Because the guy doesn't mow his lawn. Why won't he mow his yard? Is it because... he's a lazy piece of shit? And that when his neighbors report his shitty property, which is shitting up the neighborhood, he probably argues with his neighbors and threatens them in retaliation.

Idk, I'm basing all of this off of a fucking headline. I find it hard to believe that it went like "HOA calls him and threatens a fine, he says 'no', and a SWAT team is immediately sent to his house where they order him to mow the yard. They then shout 'mow your lawn, asshole' through a megaphone, as he barricades his house and threatens to murder anyone who comes onto his (3' tall) lawn." That just doesn't seem like how things would play out.

EDIT: I was right. From the article, the guy was a total fucking prick that had been shitting up the neighborhood for quite some time. He's such a piece of shit, the cops had to get involved, and then the city sent workers to mow the lawn FOR HIM. So he opened fire from his house on the guys that were mowing his lawn, then barricaded himself, and set his house on fire. Ran outside as he was being overwhelmed with the smoke, carrying his rifle, and was shot on the way out. I want to see the footage of the incident before I make my final absolute judgement, but I'm 90% sure this guy was a prick who deserved to be shot, and that the world is better without him. Opening fire on people mowing your lawn, fucking insane, most of us would love to have our lawns mowed for free (if done well).

[–] 1 pt

The city doesnt mow for free. They trespass, then seize your property to pay the costs of mowing.

[–] 0 pt

Or he was white and believed in the constitution. One or the other.

[–] 0 pt

The government doesn't do things for free.

And it's his grass on his property. If he wants to be a cunt and get into it with his HOA, that is his right.

And it's his grass on his property. If he wants to be a cunt and get into it with his HOA, that is his right.

You're right, but that changed when he opened fire on the poor bastards who have to mow his lawn for him.

He should've just mowed his lawn. Why are we even having this discussion? It's nigger behavior to not take care of your property, to not have some fucking shame if your house looks like shit in a nice neighborhood. When the community around him took steps to clean his disgusting shit up, he tried to murder them, and then set his house on fire (I am not convinced on this- fucking feds have set fire to buildings to kill/smoke out "suspects" many, many times) before running outside with a rifle. He could've just mowed his lawn... or not been such an asshole about not mowing it...

[–] 0 pt

Maybe he had paranoid schizophrenia...that would make him mentally ill, not a piece of shit.

[–] 0 pt

Kek. Boomers and their lawns.

[–] 0 pt

The city I used to live in attempted to fine and arrest me for not mowing the lawn at a property I had not lived at for over 5 years. Fuck government intervention.
