Same thing killed small trucks in the 2000s. They had to meet to same mpg as a car so manufacturers just made them midsize trucks (and ended up getting worse mpg then they got originally).

Thanks Congress

No, blame Nixon.

He started the EPA and the CAFE standards that killed the station wagon.

We did things with a minivan that we couldn't have done with a station wagon. We bought our first in '88. Great for travel, hauled baby supplies, then bicycles, and once, slept in the back, when we didn't think we'd need a hotel room. Saw the Northern Lights!

Later, bought a conversion van. I had a daycare, the raised roof made it so easy to get little kids in and out of carseats.

We still have our third, but it's for sale, my son used it to make money doing odd jobs, and moving big things for us.

Now he has a used Mercedes cargo van, and has started a real business.

Can't do that stuff with a station wagon.

Just another opinion.

Well, minivans are great, so it turned out okay. The perfect halfway mix between car and van. Lots of cargo space, and you can pull the rear seats out for more if you need it. Super comfortable seating, with room to stretch out on long trips. Drives like a car. Excellent high up vision.

Minivans are much better than the crossovers we have now.

Crossover is an example of a vehicle trying to be everything for everyone, and doing none of it well. Sucks as a car, sucks as a hatchback, not even close to a van. Shitty vision. Cramped for space. Difficult to park. Just all around shit really. Stupid shitty half cars.

They should phase them out.

What you want is a full sized hybrid electric minivan with lots of gas tank and lots of batteries. All the power you need. You can haul shit all over the place in style with that. Or move a bunch of people. Or fuck your girlfriend. Even live in it if you have too. All of that with fairly decent fuel economy. What's not to like? Seats more comfortable than your own living room at home. It's hard to beat.
