For many leftist women (and probably a lot of leftist faggots), Trump represented the dominant male power that they crave. Some of them would tweet that they were having Trump sex dreams. Women want to be dominated by strong men and since Trump was the polar opposite of the lefty beta orbiters these women have around them, he came off as uber-masculine and was wealthy and powerful to boot. This is why he lives rent free in their heads. They crave this sort of masculine dominance that they aren't getting in real life.
