Here's what I think is happening:
These folks do not have control over anything in their personal life: their relationships with friends, romantic partners, family, and their own life/emotions.
But they discover that they can control others. They tell others to use their pronouns. Names. etc. This is new found power. They can actually, FINALLY, control something in their life! And it works.
They become drunk, addicted. Now it becomes part of their personality.
Instead of doing the things they need to do to fix their problems, they push it on other people. Now it is everyone elses' fault for oppressing them, refusing to use their pronouns, preferred gender, etc. Now they can blame everyone but themselves.
Narcissism.
Try to have an convo with one of these people. Catch them in their "everyone's problem but mine!" moods. Try to get them to admit that their problems are their own and no one else's. Watch how they squirm and deny. You're evil. You're hateful. It's not them.
