I have a colleague at work who is actually a stand up guy... When I first met him I assumed he was gay as fuck. His voice is the classic "homosexual gay voice" ... In a professional setting you can not really ask about this and I did not have a choice about working with him... but I always assumed he was flamboyantly gay. ...and then one day he announced that he would be out for a few weeks on paternity leave because he and his wife were about to have their first child. I was shocked. Now I have been working with him for about three years and at a release party, after a few drinks, he talked about it. He HATES his voice. He knows he sounds like a fag and can't do anything about it. Most gays do it on purpose as a way of advertising to other gay men without being openly out... I just assumed that sounding like that was intentional for anyone that sounds like that. But for some people it is a curse. I feel so bad for the man.
