I know that it can be used in some gardening but I've also read that a lot of people just bury it without spreading it around.

What do you do with ash from charcoal or burning wood from a stove/fireplace?

I ask because I need to clean out the grill since I think I'm going to try to smoke something this coming week since the weather will be good. I just wonder what everyone else is doing with the old ash. I only use hard wood lump charcoal for many reasons. Just wondering what others do with what is left over.

You can make lye, and then soap. You'll still have potash for gardening, too.

I actually mix it in my garden soil. I take the bigger pieces and toss them in my compost pile.

I just spread it around plants, nothing special. Makes them grow well.

I keep a pile of clippings, weeds, leaves as a feeder for my composter, all my ash goes there. The potassium (literally from "pot ash") helps plants grow big and strong.

I usually scatter them on the mountainside to encourage morel growth, sometimes I'll mix it in with the garden and it can also be used in soap making.

I didn't realize that it would encourage morel growth. Also, 2nd comment about soap. Maybe ill have to give it a try.

You can extract the potassium hydroxide with water which can be used in soap making; it tends to make a softer soap than sodium hydroxide but you can counter this to an extent by adding salt.

Morels, tarragon, shallots, butter... God now I'm hungry!

Put it in an urn, claim it is your dead relatives from 1944 Germany and get the German government to start paying you reparations or some shit. Apparently you don't need any proof, and it is better that you get the money instead of some shitskin invader.

We have a wood stove so every winter we burn a ton of wood and every spring have a pile of ashes. I spread it in the woods behind the tractor shed or it goes in the compost pile
