For a time lots of cars were stolen in Germany, then quickly ended up in Poland. It got to be so bad that the proverb "Kaum gestohlen, schon in Polen." (Just been stolen, now in Poland) became common knowledge.

The other thing was that the Poles were not seen as the most hardworking of people, if you get my drift. Ancient history :)

A German friend told me about this years ago.

She said they have jokes like “If you see a Pole driving a nice car, it’s your car!”
