Old man murphy was a painter.

He did fairly well in business, but he was a cheapskate.

Every time he got a job, he'd buy the paint and then thin it down with water to make it spread further. He never told his clients he did this and he knew it would result in a less durable paint job, but did it anyway.

One day the church hired old man Murphy to paint their exterior.

He hesitated for a minute, being a devout Catholic himself, but in the end went about the job his usual way, watering down the paint.

But as he put the finishing touches on the church, the bright sunny day gave way to huge stormclouds. A gust of wind knocked old man Murphy off his ladder and right into the cemetary, while the rain washed away all his work.

Being superstitious man, the omen did not go unnoticed. And old man Murphy rose to his knees and begged for forgiveness. "What must I do, oh Lord?" He pleaded.

The clouds parted and the Lord spoke the following:

Repaint, repaint, and thin no more!
