Actually - that would at least be an “honest” (from their belief system) answer, but they won’t admit to it. If it is true that these deaths are acceptable losses for the greater good, then just say so! But they won’t. They give other convoluted, weird excuses so as to not put the blame on the good guys while still maintaining that the good guys are in charge.
