I remember a time when everything was fresh and new. You could smell the fresh paint. The lawns had lines in them between the newly-placed sods. The trees in the yards were tiny things because they had just been planted. The wood smell was everywhere. Streets has no sidewalks, and some of them had ditches along the sides. Everyone was active, working hard to make something of themselves, and they were filled with hope and confidence and happiness. Men built their own houses and fixed their own cars. They mowed their own lawns with hand mowers. Woman kept house and looked after the children, and were happy to do so. Everyone went to church on Sunday. The future has never looked so bright, before or since.
