Truly Tasteless Jokes was a book series by Blanche Knott, real name Ashton Applewhite, first published in 1982. The original book was the best-selling mass-market paperback of 1983 and the sequel Truly Tasteless Jokes Two was in the top 10

Legendary compendiums of off-color, dark, tasteless jokes. Funniest jokebooks ever, instantly classic, and stuffed with brilliant japes. I rarely hear them repeated.

They where chapterized Gay Jokes, Black Jokes, Jewish Jokes, Ethiopian Jokes, White Jokes, Mexican Jokes, Polish Jokes, Women Jokes, etc.

Anybody remember them? I'm sure there were at least five volumes

Turns out the author was a woman, the first woman to have four books on The New York Times best-seller list in fact.

I urge you to look them up if you are interested in the profane. It's the type of material that would be un-publishable today.

It illustrates how much we have lost in comedy
