My dad actually gave Richter a ride from L.A. airport twice around 1970. He got elected to be V.P. of Santa Monica chapter of Sigma Xi only to find that only honor was to act as free chauffeur for speaker. They talked a bit about Rockwell reactor design to withstand earthquakes. When dad told him he was from S.E. Missouri, he said "At least you don't have to worry about earthquakes there!" Dad thot for a sec that the expert was an idiot. He said that only happens every 3-700 yrs. unlike San Andreas' periodic release. "No point in worrying or preparing, there will not be anything left when it happens."
