IIRC The CCP also has Chinese police stations in the U.S. and Canada.
Apparently their main purpose is to catch those who overstay their visas.
I don't believe that, but only because I remember reading an article years ago in a local Philly newspaper, about Chinese Penn/Drexel students getting scammed by phone calls from people claiming to be with the CCP, claiming they overstayed their visa, and demanding money.
Let me see if I can find the article.
[Edit: I swear to God I read the same warnings 10+ years ago in an actual newspaper, but apparently they are still issuing warnings about the scam today: https://drexel.edu/studentlife/student-success/international-student-support/announcements/2025/January/fbi-alert-fraudulent-chinese-police-targeting-chinese-students}
[Edit two: You are more correct than I initially thought. Looks like the CCP is operating illegal police stations in the US as well https://thehill.com/opinion/national-security/4008817-crack-down-on-illegal-chinese-police-stations-in-the-u-s/]
