Ah, ok - I would think 1st date etiquette is to not get trashed, but who knows these days. If going to a dive bar, a bucket 'o beers is appropriate, with tequila shots if warranted. But a nice catholic girl going to a dive bar? Hmm.. If you're going somewhere really nice, champagne is best, but expensive as fuck. Wine is a decent choice all around as long as not in a bar - bar wine is for cooking with at best.
