The hallway shot shows a dark spot in the middle of the "white" section.
The puma shoe is solid white.
It's far more likely the bright lights of the hallway saturated the yellow to look white, so it appears to be solid white.

That looks to me like the cord with a plastic sheath at the ankle cuff to tighten them, which camo pants/BDUs have. As the cuffs of the pants are rolled up to try to look "like a badass", the cord is left dangling out and hanging over the sides of the shoes.
(edit: most BDUs are simply wide nylon strings with a knot tied at the ends like this: https://pic8.co/sh/T1niDj.jpeg, but many also have a plastic node at the end that holds the tightness that you pull the strings to.)
