Yes you're right. When I say jew I simply mean he was of Old Testament lineage and followed the laws of Moses, after Christ was crucified these (ceremonial) laws were done away with (not the moral law, the ten commandments).

I can accept, I guess, someone taking issue with the term 'jew' but to me it's semantics.

I'd be happy to call him a Hebrew to avoid confusion... unless there is a better term. I do agree that "jew" isn't particularly helpful, since talmudic assholes who believe Jesus is boiling in excrement also use that name for themselves.

Yes, this is the aggravation that they have, the term is so bad (and I understand their feelings) so yeah I think you're just being reasonable).
