Sex sells because horny men make stupid decisions. Imagine the world 200 years ago when women were well covered and women would even hide their ankles. Novelty plays a part in sexuality, the more you see the more you want and you can become numb to what was once exciting. The absolute saturation of softcore smut leads people to seek hardcore smut.
