The point you need to grasp on this issue is that Christianity is a rebellion against the Judaism of the priesthood and the Temple, against the sacrifices of animals and against the vindictiveness of the Jewish god. Understand this clearly -- Christianity is not a continuation of Judaism, it is a break with Judaism. That is why the Jewish priesthood hated and persecuted Jesus. He defied them. He told them to their faces that what they believed and practiced was wrong.
The god of the Jewish priesthood, the god of the Temple that used to exist in Jerusalem, is not the Christian god. The Jewish god is the demiurge, the god of this world, a lesser being who does not realize that he is a lesser being. He is a "jealous god" who likes to kill and destroy those who will not worship him. The Hebrews made a pact with this lesser mountain god, not with the God of Christians, who is the one true God.
Take care not to throw out the baby with the bathwater. Not everything the Jews taught was wrong. The dictum "Honor thy father and thy mother," for example, is a good practice to follow and contributes to a healthy, stable society. However, the element of spirit which the Jews omitted from their religion was forgiveness, and that is what Jesus, the Anointed One, brought to the world. In Christianity, everyone can be redeemed in Chirst. Everyone is forgiven by God if they truly repent their sins. What Jesus offered to a suffering world in despair was hope -- hope that things would get better, hope that there was a brighter future, hope that positive change could occur.
>Everyone is forgiven by God if they truly repent their sins.
Oh
And for what? To end up parked in heaven with one set of assholes, or parked in hell with a different set of assholes?
I'll pass, give me the void
