Perhaps visual similarity does not confirm relatedness, unless the Europeans got and selected the gene coding for light hair and strength (hand size) and Middle Easterners got and passed down the gene for big noses and long faces.

Actual Neanderthals were almost identical to humans, with a larger rear brain section but skeletal structure and upper-body articulation, arm/leg length, etc were nearly identical.
