The US had huge firebombing raids over Japan all the time. The 'nukes' were just new high-explosive firebombs, which also make mushroom clouds. There was and is ZERO radioactivity. The wily Nips rebuilt their cities immediately.

It's definitely a fringe-ass theory and I haven't looked into it very thoroughly. But I'm 100% at the point where I don't think any level deception is off the table.
