They stuck together when everyone else was every man for himself.
Was it really like that? Did the people living in the small kingdoms had no loyalty at all?
Doubt it. Most people are self interested and this self interest leads to failure. It's why corporations are so powerful, when everyone has a higher interest, they work together and help each other. One person can't be foolproof, but if you have others picking up the slack when you mess up, you all thrive together. You see the same result in society. Whites work together, some farm, some build, some design, etc and society prospers. Blacks are all out for themselves, and they live in squalor. Realizing that other people are strong where you are weak, and you can't be strong or right or good all the time is powerful. In the world, you can have 100 successes and one failure will end you. But if you succeed 99 times out of 100, and there's someone to "save" you when you fail, you can keep succeeding and building without falling behind. That's why the rich and powerful are constantly dividing us and pushing crap like feminism, critical race, racism, political correctness, etc.
Which is why Hitler created a united Germany. And why (((they))) stop at nothing to make sure that never happens again.
