The Minneapolis police used knee-on-neck restraint on George Floyd because this was what they were instructed to do with their training.
They had been using this method of incapacitation for a long time before the encounter with Mr. Floyd.
Knee-on-neck is considered a safe method of non-lethal incapacitation that has a low risk record of being used in arrest around the world, in fact the instructor who trained the Minneapolis police in knee-on-neck restraint was a commando from Israel.
It has been shown that even when putting one's full weight on the subject and holding it for 15 minutes, there is no obstruction to breathing, and no damage caused aside from temporary discomfort that occurs during the restraint and disappears shortly after the hold is released.
The fact that people are unfamiliar with the restraint practices of of their own police force and the information behind it is a great example of everything that is wrong with our countries. We are unable to apply the scientific method and critical thinking in our daily lives as we encounter various source of information, we are unaware of the laws, systems, and policies of our own governments, worst of all those relating to our own rights and what can and cannot be done to us by the state. This all needs to be corrected for the sake of our nation.
The trial was clearly a show trail, intended to demoralize the population by showing off how injustice is being done, the problem is that our own justice system is more worried about the civil unrest coming out from an honest ruling than they are about upholding their oaths and duties with no other considerations, when the threat of riots or government destabilization can pressure judges into dismissing cases of great importance, and ruling the innocent as being guilty, we have a legal system that is being held hostage.
