Well most Jews (Ashkenazi) are about 2/3 to 3/4 German, in terms of genetics. The rest is Levantine (from Greek Jewish communities in the region, and Israelites). Khazars factor in but not significantly. The brass tacks is that they aren't Biblical Hebrews, due to them being mostly German for one, for admixture from Greek Jews outside the Twelve Tribes for another.
