Epstein in 2008 agreed to a controversial non-prosecution agreement with federal authorities as part of a lenient state plea deal. U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith announced he was greenlighting the DOJ's request following the passage of a bill by Congress last month forcing the Justice Department to release all investigative records related to Epstein.
