To a certain extent there's some kickbacks involved, but I wonder if the massive expenditure was actually worth it. Was it just the result of kicking the can down the road? Were there some secret projects that required the expenditure due to the logistic and energy requirements? I think more than corruption it's the excess that is necessary to do certain things and that excess just trickles down the public faces we see.
What bothers me, beyond the astonomic numbers involved, trillions, and the means employed to cut loose ends (mass murder, fucken entire wing of the pentagon going boom)... Is that nobody rated on anybody...
You would think at least one of the fuckers involved in what would be in the end just a mere case of fraud/misappropriation of public funds/kickback schemes of epic proportion getting out hand, would say "no, this is going too far, I'm out, I'm giving you all to the DOJ so I walk"
But nope, not one, not even the rumor of one, even 20 years after the facts
That, to me, is extraordinary... I don't think it's just a mere case of systemic corruption, there's much more than that at stake behind all this, IMO
Well if you stand to make bank off the shenanigans and are getting hush money, and the threat of violence heaped upon you by entities who's soul is darker than the oil they kill for, would you run your mouth? Maybe on your death bed, when you see how powerful the media apparatus and its stooges are at shaping public opinion even when blatant lies are being spat, you kind of have to pick your battles carefully. It's a jungle full of landmines and even some killer ballet moves won't save you.
Or maybe the likes of Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Kissinger skimming off the top for their cut?
