They had powers over those who were lesser in said hierarchy and had the power to persuade demons (fallen angels;evil deceased spirits or an entire different creation by satan) to do their bidding, they would follow people around that were "marked" and then possessed the vessels (people who sold their soul) around the victim in order to create it's "reality" (attempting to put the lenses by which the victim should perceive certain situations and the world). The fact that these old "gods" had such large skulls it's proof of the tyrannical way that they dealt with their subjects and how much blood they spilled in human sacrifices and wars with the followers and nations of other "gods". These "gods" are nothing short than megalomaniacs that took the same bait that Eve did <---"For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.". You will be like God that is the promise of the serpent, so these fallen angels and evil spirits call themselves "gods". Every film you see about vampires, werewolf's, the matrix etc... are all attempts to put the lenses by which that specific group of vessels should look at the world in order for them to fill their roll in this "satanic ecosystem", even the film man in black have a meaning, they are those who daze us (normals;goym;cattle;animals;insects etc...) in order for us to pay no attention to these supernatural occurrences that happen around us.
