Illegally entering the country is a Federal crime. State and local police may or may not be empowered to arrest for it. And even if they are, state and local jails and judges may not be able to hold the illegal if ICE refuses to pick them up.

So it feels redundant but really isn't in the American system.

Then there need to be ICE officers in every town. It should clearly be a joint responsibility between all levels of government at this point.

They're not allowed to defend their own borders? What ever happened to states' rights?
