As people start relying more on cloud connected devices and services, they become vulnerable to tyranny and become renters. Phillips is announcing that in order to use their light bulbs, you must have an account. Google has retired many services people relied on. Many cloud services get hacked, go down and simply go out of business. I loved how Amazon Ring thought it heard some racist remark and locked some idiot out of his house. Don't forget how the electric utility shuts your airconditioner off when the grid reaches maximum capacity because you have a smart thermostat. And of course, law enforcement will get all your personal data when they ask for it.

I have exactly zero cloud services. I plan on keeping it that way.
